Kids Fall Tree Painting Activity

When we can’t go outside to burn off some energy, paint is always one of my go to options for my kids to find some balance.

Materials Needed:
-tree picture
-paint brushes
-paint

I like to also do themed projects. Since it’s fall we’ve been learning about, trees, leaves, acorns and nuts I find things related for the kids to paint.
For this exercise we were learning how to put the leaves on the trees. I made this tree template and just printed it. I then let the kids use some crayola paint to dab the leaves on.

For me it’s amazing to see how different their approach is to the task. One child follows the instructions and dots the leaves on while the other doesn’t care for the instructions and uses the time to express himself as he wants. He demonstrated that he knows how but it’s not fun to him. It’s very telling about how different they process and work through things even at this age. Creativity is very important so I model the activity and then I just let them explore it on their own.
